On Feb. 19, 2015, ESPP welcomed Dr. DeAndra Beck, Associate Dean for Research, ISP, to discuss "International Environmental Research: Funding Opportunities in NSF and other Agencies."

    Dr. Beck joined MSU in December 2014, bring with her an impressive resume of work including program director for the National Science Foundation's Office of International Science and Engineering. She was responsible for NSF's Developing Country Initiatives and the Middle East and Africa portfolios. Prior to joining NSF, she held leadership positions at the U.S. Millinium Challenge Corp. and the U.S. Forest Service.

    At MSU, Dr. Beck is charged with expanding MSU's role as a leader in international research around key international themes, including food and agriculture, the environment, education and health. She identifies new funding opportunities as well as overseeing ISP's portfolio of grant and foundation awards.

    Joining Dr. Beck was Dr. Vlad Tarabara, associate professor of civil and environmental engineering and associate director of ESPP. Dr. Tarabara is current a Fulbright Scholar in the Republic of Georgia and has a current PIRE grant.

    Also speaking was Dr. Emilio Moran. Dr. Moran has extensive international research experience with an emphasis on Brazil.
