ESPP Interdisciplinary Conference Funding for MSU Graduate Students
To attend conference or meetings with an interdisciplinary environmental focus. Students must present their work. Up to $750 per request.

Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships (FLAS) - MSU
For studying a language and a foreign area or development. Enrolled and new graduate students are eligible. Must be U.S.citizens or permanent residents. Include tuition and fees, $15,000 annual stipend, and $7,500 for summer language study. Three MSU centers are offering them: African Studies Center, Asian Studies Center, Center for Advanced Study of International Development and Center for Gender in Global Context.

Open to current ESPP students. Students will work on a new GK-12 project with an intellectual focus on the ecological dimensions of bioenergy sustainability. MSU Student Teams for Environmental Competitions
Environmental Challenge International (ECi) organized by the Air and Waste Management Association: an open-ended design problem is presented to students across the world. Another similar competition is the WEF Wastewater Challenge. MSU teams form annually, coordinated by MSU's Environmental Engineering Student Society.

Boren Awards for International Study - National Security Education Program
For undergraduate students to study abroad in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad. Topic must relate to national security, defined broadly as including sustainable development, environmental degradation, global disease and hunger, and population growth and migration. P3 Awards: A National Student Design Competition for Sustainability Focusing on People, Prosperity and the Planet - EPA
Funds an interdisciplinary team of undergraduate and/or graduate students to develop sustainable projects. The first phase is a competition for one-year grants of up to $15,000 to develop scientific or engineering designs that will promote sustainable development. In the following spring, Phase I grantees present their designs in Washington, DC where they compete for Phase II grant awards of up to $90,000. 40 awards for Phase I; 5 awards for Phase II. Areas are: Energy, Built Environment, Materials and Chemicals, Water, Agriculture, Green Infrastructure, and Green Cookstoves.

NSF funds a large number of research opportunities for undergraduate students through its REU Sites program. An REU Site consists of a small group of undergraduates who work in the research programs of the host institution. Students are granted stipends and, in many cases, assistance with housing and travel.

Significant Opportunities in Atmospheric Research and Science - NASA
For undergraduate students (rising juniors or seniors) to research atmospheric science and related areas. Summer program and college funding. Open to students in fields including meteorology, chemistry, physics, engineering, mathematics, ecology, and the social sciences. SOARS seeks to involve students from groups that are historically under-represented in the sciences. Must be US citizen or permanent resident.

Dissertation Initiative for the Advancement of Climate Change Research (DISCCRS), NSF and NASA
DISCCRS brings together recent PhDs engaged in research related to climate change for a week-long workshop in October. Selection will favor applicants who plan to engage in interdisciplinary research careers in any subject within or relevant to climate change and its impacts. The aim of DISCCRS is to foster interdisciplinary work by connecting new researchers who are striving to create and integrate knowledge across multiple disciplines and to develop creative solutions to problems relating to climate change. American Fellowships are for women who are US citizens/ permanent residents; International Fellowships are for women who aren’t! Global Sustainability Summer School - in Germany
