BEACON Center for the Study of Evolution in Action
NSF Science and Technology Center founded with the mission of illuminating and harnessing the power of evolution in action to advance science and technology and benefit society. Research at BEACON focuses on biological evolution, digital evolution, and evolutionary applications in engineering, uniting biologists who study natural evolutionary processes with computer scientists and engineers who are harnessing these processes to solve real-world problems.
Center for Advanced Study of International Development (CASID)
CASID promotes and coordinates the study of issues related to international development from the perspective of the social sciences and liberal arts.
Center for Advancing Microbial Risk Assessment (CAMRA)
CAMRA has twin missions. The first is a technical mission to develop sets of models, tools and information that will be used in a credible risk assessment framework to reduce health impacts from deliberate use of biological agents of concern. The second mission is to build a national network for microbial risk assessment for knowledge management, learning and transfer, for scientists, students and professionals.
Center for Global Change and Earth Observations (CGCEO)
CGCEO's mission is to foster interdisciplinary approaches for understanding global change at all scales using the tools of both the social and bio-physical sciences. The Center is also committed to applying its research and expertise to inform public and private decision-making on critical global environmental change issues.
Center for Integrative Toxicology (CIT)
The CIT builds upon recognized research strength on the health and environmental effects of pollutants. With over 50 affiliated faculty who are distinguished in a wide range of scientific disciplines, the center offers an innovative and highly integrative environment for research, teaching, and graduate school education in toxicology.
Center for Systems Integration and Sustainability (CSIS)
CSIS's mission is to develop and maintain a center of excellence that integrates ecology with socioeconomics, demography, and other disciplines for ecological sustainability from local, national, to global scales.
Center for Water Sciences (CWS)
The mission of CWS is to advance scientific research and knowledge for understanding, protecting, and restoring water resources and their sustainable use by humans and ecosystems around the Great Lakes and the world. Our interdisciplinary scientific teams of MSU faculty and students investigate and provide solutions to current, emerging, and future environmental problems that face our local, national, and global water systems.
Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, and Behavior Program (EEBB)
The Interdepartmental Graduate Program in Ecology, Evolutionary Biology and Behavior is a multidisciplinary program of study and research leading to a Master's specialization or dual-major Ph.D. in Ecology, Evolutionary Biology and Behavior and one of the traditional disciplines offered by EEBB participating departments.
Environmental Statistics and Modeling Initiative
We are a group within the Environmental Science and Policy Program at MSU that has been brought together to explore and evaluate the program of environmental statistics and modeling at MSU.
Kellogg Biological Station Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) Program
The Kellogg Biological Station LTER Program studies the ecology of intensive field crop ecosystems as part of a national network of LTER sites established by the National Science Foundation. The Network supports research that provides a better understanding of ecological phenomena in both natural and managed ecosystems.
Knight Center for Environmental Journalism
The Knight Center, at MSU's School of Journalism trains student and professional journalists to cover the environment. The program offers numerous classes and professional workshops for the study and practice of environmental journalism. It also maintains the Meeman Archives, a collection of more than 1,500 outstanding environmental journalism articles.
The overarching purpose of the Pileus Project is to provide useful climate information to assist decision makers. The current focus is on two leading industries in the Great Lakes region: agriculture and tourism.
Remote Environment Assessment Laboratory
Our goal is to investigate the relationship between in situ observations and landscape level processes in order to better understand ecosystem dynamics.
Remote Sensing & GIS Research and Outreach Services (RS&GIS)
The mission of RS&GIS is to provide state-of-the-art remote sensing (RS), global positioning system (GPS), geographic information science (GIS) and cartographic services to the MSU campus, the State of Michigan, and other agencies. We provide outreach instruction and technology transfer in the geospatial fields of RS, GPS, GIS, and cartography, and conduct research grant and contract work for on-campus and off-campus units.
Sustainable Michigan Endowed Project (SMEP)
SMEP provides a venue for ongoing scholarly reflection and critique on the sustainability of Michigan, as well as seed grants for sustainability research from a Michigan state-level perspective. SMEP also provides a venue for on-going, long-term sustainability discourse with the goal of influencing the intellectual culture within MSU, and particularly the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
